PAT O’BRIEN, CAYP, CCH, AADP, AHG has been in practice treating patients with natural medicine for the past 8 years in the southern tier of New York state. She studied natural medicine professionally for 5 years and has diplomas/certifications from these schools: the Bayville Ayurveda Holistic Center, the American Institute of Vedic Studies, the Institute for Chinese Herbology, and the Connecticut Institute for Herbal Studies. In addition to studying Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese medicine, nutrition/diet, and western herbal medicine, she studied macrobiotics with world renowned Herman Aihara at the Vega Institute. Pat is also very knowledgeable in natural supplements, having worked in the industry in 3 different states: Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York. In her practice she uses Western, Indian, and Chinese herbal medicine, diet/nutrition, and natural supplements for the treatment of chronic diseases.
Pat is board certified with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, professionally certified with the American Herbalist Guild (which has serious requirements and an ongoing peer review process every few years), is also a member of the Northeast Herbal Association.
She has an exciting new book out on natural medicine titled: Natural Medicine: What You Need to Know to Make it Work for You, and has several featured articles with Macrobiotics Today magazine. In addition to this, Pat was recently quoted in this past August 2007 issue of national Fit Yoga magazine in an article on herbal medicine.
Pat has been a guest speaker at several reputable national conferences, including the annual Women’s New England Herbal Conference this past August! She has had 2 TV appearances in Cattaraugus and Tompkins counties, New York, and has given dozens of classes, lectures, workshops on natural health in the northeast, as well as done book signings.
On a more traditional note, she holds two bachelor’s degrees from Alfred University, was an Executive Director for the American Cancer Society. Although born in Buffalo, Pat is originally from the eastern end of Long Island. She also lived for a short while in Redding, Connecticut, and Newport, Rhode Island. Passionate about athletics, she ran track and cross-country for high school and college. In high school, junior high, and middle school, she was also on the tennis, basketball and swim teams. In her twenties, she ran competitively and won several gold, silver and bronze medals in 5k races throughout the northeast including: Elmira, Buffalo, Long Island, Connecticut, and Watkins Glen. Currently, she runs and does bodybuilding. She is in the process of training for a show this year.
