PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS ON BATTLEFIELDS
Presented by Mark Nesbitt

7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Assembly Hall
Fee: $40.00
Thanks to the success of numerous popular television programs, interest in the paranormal seems to be at an all-time high. “Ghost Hunters” flock to places like Gettysburg, PA, scene of the great Civil War battle, attempting to photograph “orbs,” record “EVP” (electronic voice phenomenon-the voices of the dead on tape), and otherwise document some paranormal activity. The problem is that many are uninformed as to the proper preparation, protocol, use of equipment, and documentation to make the “investigation” as close to scientific as possible.
How does one research a battlefield for historic information germane to the investigation site? How does one even find a Civil War site (they’re not all national parks like Gettysburg) and how does one get permission to investigate there? What is the proper use of the two types of equipment, “detecting” equipment and “recording” equipment? What does each piece of equipment do? And finally, what is the proper way to document all the data gathered? Mark has participated in over 100 investigations and taught hundreds of students on the proper methods of conducting a paranormal investigation. His main emphasis, in the last several years, has been on teaching people how to conduct a paranormal investigation so that it will yield testable data for further scientific study.
MARK NESBITT is the author of the popular Ghosts of Gettysburg book series (six volumes), A Ghost Hunter’s Field Guide: Gettysburg and Beyond, and several books on the Civil War. He also appears in the “Ghosts of Gettysburg” television series, as well as “Mysterious Journeys” on the Travel Channel (fall 2007), and in episodes of “Unsolved Mysteries” and “Sightings”. His many awards include the National Paranormal Award for “Best True Hauntings Collection” and “Best ‘Local Haunt’ Guidebook” (2004). He also runs the “Ghosts of Gettysburg Candlelight Walking Tours” and the “Ghosts of Fredericksburg Tours” in Virginia.
